Want to have your wedding outdoors? There are so many gorgeous venues that provide great outdoor locations for both your ceremony and reception. Jessica, from Boomrock, loves outdoor weddings and has put together a list of 4 reasons why you should seriously consider this option. Breath-taking landscapes and clay bird shooting are just two of the awesome features that Boomrock provides.
Located 250m above the Tasman Sea, Boomrock cliff top weddings are set amongst a unique rural location with panoramic views stretching from Mana Island right across to the top of the South Island. Rugged New Zealand landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for photo opportunities and here at Boomrock we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by both sea and land, with 2500 acres of farm and native bush complimenting the ocean outlook. Contrasting elements give the bride and groom freedom to enjoy an array of locations and natural beauty at all seasons. Popular photo locations at Boomrock are:
- The ceremony on the lawn where photographers capture a collision of colour between land, sea, and sky.
- The woolshed at the bottom of the property for a rustic “Kiwi style” bridal party photo.
- Underneath beautiful old pine trees between bare pastures and rolling fields of green.

Outdoor wedding locations set an entertaining and relaxed atmosphere for both guests and the bridal party. Claybird Shooting and Extreme Golf are crowd favourites at Boomrock and we can guarantee that these outdoor activities will add an extra element to your wedding leaving guests with fond memories of your big day. Enjoying the outdoors is part of the Kiwi culture; Drizabone jackets, hats and gumboots double as both fun and practical props for the day!

With changing landscapes throughout the year, brides and grooms who opt for outdoor weddings have the luxury of theming with seasonal blooms and colours. Petals scattered between the pews leading up to the aisle and fairy lights or lanterns hung through the trees will create the perfect ambience for your special day. It’s important to consider a theme that will photograph well – as the old saying goes, “less is more”. You don’t want to overcrowd the area with different colours or details; rather, choose a colour scheme that will compliment your outdoor setting and remain timeless.

Outdoor weddings provide the perfect setting for a social atmosphere. Guests can dance the night away under the night sky or sit around an outdoor fire pit. Outdoor games such as petanque or a horse shoe throw are great ways to get guests to mingle. Everyone will be dressed for the weather, so you may as well make the most of outdoor spaces and the chance to socialise and enjoy the occasion. Watching the sun go down and the stars come out is the perfect way to end a gorgeous outdoor wedding and Boomrock’s stunning landscapes will ensure the outlook is breath-taking.
